Marketing Trends That Matter for Business Leaders

Principles Before Everything

When I look at marketing trends, I always start with principles.

Principles are the rules of the road. The fundamentals you will not break. Principles lead to process. Process is how you achieve your goals. And finally, the platform is the tools, campaigns, and initiatives that bring it all to life.

Great marketing organizations stay steadfast on principles. They use those principles as a guiding light to refine the process. And only then do they experiment with platforms.

Here is a real example.

A core principle for many companies is simple. You must hold the top search position where your buyers are looking. In the past, that meant being the number one result on Google. Today, it also means being the top result inside AI-driven search tools like ChatGPT and Gemini. The principle does not change. The search destination evolves.

From Principle to Process

Once the principle is clear, the process follows.

Many companies have invested heavily in SEO. The process is now expanding into GEO and AEO.

GEO, or generative engine optimization, ensures your content can be referenced and cited by AI tools. AEO, or answer engine optimization, structures content to directly answer common questions that appear in voice search, featured snippets, and AI responses.

When someone searches on their phone and sees an AI-generated answer at the top, the goal is to become the cited source in that response. That becomes the new process focus. Month-over-month improvements. Incremental gains. Consistent execution.

Platforms Are the Final Step

Only after principles and processes are defined do platforms come into play.

As an example, platforms like Reddit are becoming increasingly valuable. User-generated comments help inform AI models and influence which sources get cited. For some businesses, that means indexing into Reddit or other user-driven platforms for the first time. The platform is simply the vehicle to execute the process that supports the principle.

Where Leaders Are Seeing the Biggest Change

The most significant shifts in marketing right now are happening in GEO and AEO. This is driving more investment in content creation and structuring to keep brands visible in AI-powered search experiences.

This is where forward-thinking leaders are placing their time and energy.

Trends Leaders Should Ignore

The trends to ignore are those that start with a platform rather than a principle.

Marketing leaders make costly mistakes when they buy tools before defining strategy. They install platforms without a process. They chase trends without connecting them to fundamentals. That burns time, budget, and energy without delivering impact.

The correct order always stays the same.

Principle first, Process second & Platform last.

“I also want to assure you that having GetLevrg work with us is a game changer in terms or our online presence, our website presence, and – I can’t emphasize this enough – my sanity. Nuzhat, Shadab and Liam are amazing. They are organized, proactive, always checking to see what they can do to better help us, and continually give us suggestions on how to leverage them in ways we wouldn’t know to ask for.

Shadab in fact managed to talk our CRO, who is literally – and ironically – allergic to technology, through downloading two apps and signing onto multiple screens so that you all could assist us in using LinkedIn to set meetings for an upcoming show – an effort on Shadab’s part that roughly equates to calmly leading a panicked horse out of a burning barn.

I do not know who in leadership reviews your CSAT feedback, but I would like to assure you, and them, that had I actually given it, the feedback would be “Outstanding” with “Lifesaver” written in the comments section.”
